PRESS CONFERENCE TOPIC:
Thousands of North Carolina children currently receive government funded services and participate in government programs that are being threatened by the $1.5 billion budget deficit. These programs help keep children safe from abuse and neglect, provide them with critical health care and nutritional services, help prevent juvenile crime, ensure infants are cared for safely, provide safe housing and educate school age children. There is a way to avoid cuts by raising revenue responsibly. The Covenant recognizes and supports the efforts of several legislators who have entered seventeen revenue bills in the House that lay out several revenue options. Parents share their story about needing these services and, along with members of the Covenant with North Carolina’s Children, call on legislators to pass responsible revenue increases to ensure that critical programs are not cut.
