LIVING INCOME EMAIL ALERT

ALERT!
ON JULY 2nd CALL ON NC HOUSE MEMBERS TO
SAVE SERVICES, RAISE REVENUES

The Living Income Initiative is a special project of the NC Justice and Community Development Center. It is
supported completely through contributions and foundation support. You can contribute directly by mail at
Living Income Initiative, P.O. Box 28068, Raleigh, NC 27611. Email us at sorien@ncjustice.org

Background:
The NC House of Representatives is hoping to quickly prepare and pass their version of the budget. Thus far, House leaders continue to say they do not want to raise new revenues and no one in leadership is publicly discussing progressing revenue bills entered in the House. The Senate's proposed budget would cut $263 million in Health and Human Services programs and over $130 million in Public Education. The Senate would cut 800 filled jobs and 1,316 more vacant positions. Budget cuts to county Departments of Social Services would eliminate another 400 county social services positions.

ON JULY 2 CALL OR EMAIL YOUR HOUSE MEMBERS AND THE BELOW HOUSE LEADERS

1) How To:

Calls: Give your name and address, especially if you are calling your representative. Say your main point first. Be Concise. You will most likely have to leave a message with a legislative assistant.

Emails: Indicate your main point in the Subject line. Provide your name and address. Be Concise.

2) Message:

I AM A TAXPAYER AND I WANT YOU TO RAISE ENOUGH REVENUE TO AVOID DEVASTATING CUTS TO CRITICAL PROGRAMS.

WE CANNOT RESOLVE THE BUDGET PROBLEM BY CUTTING CRITICAL HEALTH, MENTAL HEALTH, HUMAN SERVICES, HOUSING, JUVENILE JUSTICE OR EDUCATION FUNDING AND PROGRAMS. The cuts being considered would send our state back ten years and cause irreparable damage to programs and people.

THERE ARE MANY PROGRESSIVE WAYS TO INCREASE REVENUES WITHOUT HURTING THOSE WHO CAN LEAST AFFORD IT. I SUPPORT YOUR EFFORTS TO FIND AND IMPLEMENT FAIR METHODS FOR INCREASING REVENUE.
The burden of the state budget deficit must be shared by all individuals and corporations. Cuts and revenues should not primarily fall upon low- and middle-income North Carolinians
