The
North Carolina Justice Center seeks a Public Policy Analyst for
its Budget & Tax Center project. The Justice Center
is a statewide non-profit advocacy organization dedicated to securing
legal, social and economic justice for persons living in poverty
and disadvantaged communities. The Analyst will conduct research
and write publications on topics including the state labor market
and other workforce issues, causes of and solutions to poverty,
and state and federal budget and tax policies.
The
Analyst must be a self-starter with ability to identify emerging
policy priorities; have knowledge of economic and fiscal policy issues,
preferably in North Carolina; experience conducting data and/or cost
analysis; strong writing and presentation skills; and a commitment
to improving social and economic conditions for low- and moderate-income
North Carolinians.
Salary is commensurate with experience. The Justice Center offers
an excellent fringe benefit and leave package. The position is

DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS
Requires a
bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications
or related field (master’s degree preferred) plus five years
experience in journalism, communications or related discipline
to include 2 years of direct media experience.

General Description
The
North Carolina Justice Center seeks a communications professional
with 5+ years
of experience to create a communication infrastructure
for the organization, articulate a strong message for progressive
social change messages across a range of media, and elevate the
Justice Center’s profile among key media audiences.
• Prepare
proposals for new communications-related projects and strategies
• Identify external events and other speaking opportunities for staff
• Coordinate the preparation and circulation of new releases, advisories,
op-eds and letters to the editor regarding issues affecting low
to moderate citizens and the overall activities of the Justice
Center
• Work with key staff to implement integrated communications strategies
that deliver regular and consistent messages to the media and important
external audiences
• Field and direct responses to media-related inquiries
• Pitch stories and appearances to reporters, columnists, editorial
writers, broadcast producers, reporters, hosts, etc.
• Plan and implement news conferences and other media events
• Provide media-related counsel and coaching to staff
• Maintain a current list of media contacts and actively cultivate
media relationships
• Collaborate with staff on the production of a range of briefing
materials
• Effectively liaise with staff for sources of news and story ideas
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Background and Skills
An
experienced communications/media relations professional with
a solid understanding
of directing communications activities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high
ability to listen and accurately assimilate the ideas of others.
Must be able to manage the media and external agencies and be
concerned to see that communications activities promote the Justice
Center’s mission, values and image in the community. Must
also be able to establish and maintain excellent working relations
at all levels within the Justice Center and externally. Position
reports to the Executive Director.
